CVs that reflect who you are, not just what you do

A question I get asked a lot is what makes my CV service different from other CV writers.

One of the things clients say to me all the time is that when they read their finished CV, it sounds exactly like them. In fact, they’ll often say, “I can’t believe how much this sounds like me, but you’ve said it so much better than I ever could.”

The reason for that is simple. Unlike many CV writers, we don’t just fill out a form and send things away. We hop online together and spend an hour spilling the tea over a cuppa.

And I want the real version. The good, the bad and the ugly. The highlights, the lowlights, the messy bits in between. I want to know what’s actually happened in your job, including the things that make you slightly cringe or break out in a cold sweat when you think about them. And I also want to know what made you feel proud. The moments where you thought, “yeah, I actually did that well.”

While we’re talking, I’m listening deeply the entire time. I’m observing your sentence structure, your tone, the language you naturally use, what you lean into, and what you move past quickly. A lot of people find this part surprisingly cathartic. Sometimes we’re unpacking your career story, and sometimes we’re doing a bit of reframing or mindset work along the way.

Over time, I’ve become very good at picking up how people communicate, not just what they say. The words they default to when they’re confident, how they talk about their achievements when they think they’re “just doing their job,” and the patterns underneath their experience.

Having spent years writing speeches and communications for senior leaders, CEOs and politicians, I’m comfortable stepping into somebody else’s shoes and communicating in a way that feels authentic to them.

The result is a CV that doesn’t just document your experience. It reflects who you are, what you bring, and where you’re heading. And that’s worth its weight in gold when you have to speak to it later, whether that’s in phone screens or interviews.

And if I’ve done my job properly, you read it and think, “that’s me!”
