Career coaching isn’t just for job hunters. Let me tell you why...

I see a lot of tears during coaching calls. And I see such huge relief after they have been shed. Sometimes people can't understand why.

I understand why. People tell me I’m a good listener and safe space creator. I ask great questions - sometimes that means hard questions. But I’m a big softie and my hard questions usually land well.

When work is the - or one of the - most important things in your life, or a key part of your identity, it becomes very high stakes.

Many of the clients I work with, or people who talk to me about their careers, often have long-held limiting beliefs or old stories that have kept them stuck, chipped away at their confidence or left them feeling less than.

Our careers - where we are, where we are not; what we do and what we don’t; where we feel we belong versus having to fit - stir up SO MANY emotions, often taking us back to childhood and the potential our parents did or didn’t see in us, stinging memories of being excluded in the playground, or the fallout from an academic performance that missed the mark and had a flow-on effect to all the decisions we made from that point on.

For many of us, these old wounds influence our career decisions, what we see our options as being, how we react to challenging workplace situations, how much we think we are ‘worth’ when it comes to remuneration and so much more.

It can be deeply upsetting when you feel overlooked or unappreciated in the workplace. It can be hugely challenging to watch the rest of your social circle or tribe ‘overtake’ you on the career front, climbing the corporate ladder and raking in the big bucks while you have to budget for a night out and the thought of ever owning a home feels so far out of reach.

It can be absolutely confidence-shattering to work for a micro-managing, controlling or bullying manager or amongst a team that completely ostracises you.

There is no great divide between work and home. No border. No razor fence wire. No invisible force fields. If you’re miserable at work, burning out or flatlining, feeling like you don’t belong or your boss doesn’t have your back, you’ll take that home with you. If those around you - your nearest and dearest - don’t cheerlead you or keep pushing you forwards, you’ll take that into the workplace.

For the perfectionists,

For the high achievers,

For the ambitious ones,

For the people pleasers.

You are already enough. The only person you need to be enough for you, is you.

For the ones trying to keep up,

For the ones trying to catch up,

For the ones with something to lose,

For the ones with everything to prove.

Your career is yours and yours alone. The only person who needs to be proud of you, is you.

For those who have lost their way,

For those who haven’t found their place,

For those trying their hardest to hide,

For those desperately wanting to be seen.

You bring so much value to the table. The right organisation will be so happy when they find you and you will thrive when they do.

For those who’ve hit a wall,

For those who’ve reached the ceiling,

For those who no longer sleep at night,

For those who can’t shake those overwhelming feelings.

There is so much more to life than work and you are so much more than your career.

You might be surprised to hear this, but career coaching isn’t just for job hunters. At any one time around a third of my clients are working with me on:

🎯 Improving performance, working smarter, redressing work/life balance or burnout issues.

💰 Scoring a promotion, pay-rise, or otherwise sweeter deal.

🗣 Increasing their confidence and saying goodbye to Imposter Syndrome in the workplace.

💡 Elevating their reputation and enhancing their brand, through nailing their niche, effective networking and thought leadership.

🗺️ Setting their longer-term career goals and creating a roadmap to get there.

If you’d like to work on your self-confidence, self-respect and self-worth in a career context, I’d love to help.
